Alan Reed was born in Northumberland, into a family with a history of
painting. He is a strong Christian and his faith finds expression in his
commitment to his family, local church and through his watercolours.
|
The Alan Reed Studio & Gallery opened in January 2003 to provide Alan
with a place to paint and exhibit some of his original paintings and limited
edition prints in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
It's a place where you can meet Alan to discuss commissions and
other painting projects or simply browse at your own leisure. You can buy
greetings cards, a small gift or commission Alan to paint your favourite
place as a personal treat to yourself or loved one for that special
occasion.
|
Alan has had selling exhibitions since 1981, including
the Mall Galleries, London and the Malcolm Innes Gallery, Edinburgh.
The quality of Alan's work received national recognition with the
selection of a number of his cityscapes for exhibition in the Sunday Times
Watercolour Competition for three successive years..

"
I produce paintings which are representational but
not photographic. I'm concerned about capturing the light and
the fleeting moment in time for which watercolour is ideally suited.
I like to paint beach scenes, people and cities,
particularly pre 20th century architecture and the hustle and bustle of
street life.
Working on location in Italy, Florida, the West
coast of Scotland and the Henley Royal Regatta has brought a creative sense
of fluency to my painting

Alan fell in love with watercolour, arguably the most
difficult of all mediums to master, at the age of 15. Since then he has
studied the work of the great exponents of watercolour and has developed a
style that is very distinctive.

|
|
Since his first exhibition in 1981 Alan has built up a loyal following
of faithful admirers of his paintings, which have become increasingly
collectable.
A recent accolade has been the inclusion of his paintings in the new
book "Landscapes in Watercolour" by Theodora Philcox, an inspirational book
which features the work of 23 leading water colourists from around the
world.

To own an "Alan Reed" original watercolour is to have a piece of
artwork that truly is unique. No two originals can ever be identical as it
is impossible to create the freshness and spontaneity of each individual
wash. Some brush marks are carefully thought out, others almost instinctive,
the result of 25 years experience.
